Wilde and Wilde Architecture llp are Architects in Norwich, Norfolk, UK. We craft buildings and spaces, inside and out, that are all together functional and enjoyable, whether for living, working or for leisure. We have extensive experience working with clients and builders on projects ranging from contemporary to traditional in nature, including historically sensitive locations and Listed Buildings.

Architectural commissions are often quite varied as you will see from the broad spectrum of work completed.

The design office is led by ARB Registered Architect, Antony Wilde (BArch, DipArch, RIBA I,II,III, ARB) together with Partner, Kate Wilde (BArch, RIBA I). We combine a healthy mix of design flair, business sense, technical know-how and clear communication.

Though we are a boutique (a.k.a small) regional business approaching 10 years of working for ourselves in Norwich; our roots lay in larger UK and international Architecture firms. We are experienced with design projects, small and simple to large and complex including train stations. We aim for all of our work to be fresh and architecturally engaging.

Plan of Work

For residential Clients, we follow the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Plan of Work and the commission will advance in stages from Concept through to Completion. We advise on all aspects of design when building your dream home or extension including practical considerations for before and after the works start, working with builders and local craftsmen, through to the installation and implementation of sensible, low-energy, ecologically-friendly equipment and construction techniques.

In the past, we offered a stage-by-stage appointment service, for Clients that required the Architect to complete select RIBA work stages, say to Building Regulations stage. This was quite common; we engage with lots of builders that are sufficiently experienced to work from our details under their own steam, and Clients theoretically saved a little on fees.

Now….with the UK Building Act in force, we can still be hired for planning applications where a project is too large, complex or sensitive to fit within permitted development rights, however, thereafter into the detailed design part of the project, we can be hired for full commissions only. This ensures Architect site presence during construction, so that elements affecting fire and life safety are completed by the building team to an exacting standard. This is a surprisingly valuable service and well worth the modest investment by Clients wanting to secure a good quality build.

Project focus: this is a planning-stage design for an extension in Southwold, Suffolk: our interpretation of the local context, site constraints and client brief led to a techtonic approach with an expressive beam and rafter structure picking up an original pitched tile roof and low-pitched addition.

Internally, an existing kitchen space which is compromised by being on a busy route through the home, will be cleared to improve the Homeowner's dining area and circulation space, while a new kitchen will be constructed to the side with a light glazed elevation overlooking a charming side garden.

We have worked on a number of commercial projects, from feasibility/ viability level studies to unlocking land for sale with planning permissions. We have also created design packs for retailers providing interior design and signage ideas for implementation. Commercial Clients considering office, retail and leisure upgrades, fit-outs, works to residential property or the planning and delivery of development sites, can select from a range of design services from concept artwork to Architect technical services, reflecting their specific project and business requirements.
